BIG FIND!
I went on IRC today (EFnet) and asked on #o-gaming about ppl playing Momir in MWS. Noone had tried it, as they all prefer to use the simplicity of MTGO. I referred them to my file, and the few who checked it out figured it out but were unimpressed due to the long amount of time it takes to make tokens etc.; they kept referring to this thing in IRC called Datatog. Well I investigated, and its this AMAZING bot that you can ask anything, search any card, pretty much do everything! The kicker is, it does Momir random picks!
Heres how Datatog works:
To use it, be on EFnet anywhere, and /msg Datatog [command]
Help is /msg Datatog help
also you can use help * for a full list of commands.
Its run by Yawgatog. for more help, see #mtgjudge channel
Basic searching can use parts of names, wildcards, card field matching: search type=goblin cost=*R
When you receive multiple search results, they are numbered. msg only the number back to Datatog to get that one answer (this is the "menus").
How to use for Momir games:
simply say /msg Datatog momir X (where X is the casting cost you want).
It spits out a random creature.
"Returns a random creature card available on MTGO with a given converted mana cost. This mimics the functionality of MTGO's Momir Vig vanguard avatar. Momir draws from all Extended-legal sets, Mirage, Visions, and promos (Argivian Archaeologist, Baron Sengir, Hand of Justice, Hazezon Tamar, Ifh-Biff Efreet, Khabal Ghoul, Morphling, Preacher, Sedge Troll, Serendib Efreet, Serra Avatar, Sliver Queen, Thunder Spirit, and Two-Headed Giant of Foriys). Example: momir 5"
However:
It only works with MTGO creatures.
Its kinda tricky to copy text from IRC into MWS. My mIRC setup lets me highlight text and when I let go, its automatically in the clipboard; others may have to highlight, and while holding that steady and not releasing the mouse button, press ctrl-c.
Datatog only replies via /msg chat (whisper). It will not speak in channel chat unless you are a judge for o-gaming or in #mtgjudge with op or voice.
To get around this: *COOL SECRET!*
Goto channel #mtgmomir . Type !momir X and it will spit out its find in the channel for you and your opponent to both see!
Conclusion: Obscenely quick way of getting a random creature compared to die-rolling and searching a list (because its a script bot); limited to MTGO sets a downside, copying to MWS painful and text not formatted very well. Necessity of IRC knowhow, both players in the special channel, and stable non-banned connection also negative.
So.. What we need is a standalone program that will do all the searching and MWS-friendly data-on-screen, based on die roll in MWS (and the core data is the same so the roll can be verified by opponent), unless the program emulates a chatroom to allow a random pick to be seen by both players. So its back to you, Mulsiphix?
