In the future please start a new thread. We want to keep the forum as organized as possible and it helps users in the future, with the same problem, find help with greater ease.

So does it crash regardless of what theme you change it to or does it only crash when switching to a certain theme? I remember Huggy saying something about the included WOW Theme being corrupt.

Hmm, don't think I said that, the theme is fine.

MWS will crash when changing themes sometimes, it's a MWS bug.

The solution is to change themes from outside of MWS. You can do this by editing the theme entry in the registry.

With MWS closed, go to "HKEY_USERS\....\Software\Magic Workstation" and change the Active Theme key from default to WOW.

You can save the keys for quick changing, this is discussed at http://www.runners-net.com/, and somewhere on this forum.

Thank you for the info Huggy. I will be sure to create a new locked thread regarding this topic once this thread is no longer active. At that time I will be sure to cover how to create reg files for quick theme switching :D

no it it switched to the WoW theme fine, but after that it would not switch back to any other theme, i managed to get it back to Magic by doing a global reset, but i am stuck with the default theme

Yes, Malhavoc (as he discusses at Runners Net) exports a .reg file for each theme, then to change themes he double clicks the reg file he needs.

In Windows, Start/Run/Regedit/OK
Then Edit/Find
Then File/Export

This is the bare bones explanation, please Google or maybe someone can give you more details.

  1. Make sure MWS is closed before continuing.
  2. Press Windows Key + R.
  3. type "Regedit" and click OK.
  4. The window that will pop up will look very familiar to Windows Explorer. Simply navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Magic Workstation
  5. Double click on "Active Theme" and type in the name of the theme you want to use. Make sure the name you type is spelled exactly the same way as the theme file and be sure not ot include the .mwTheme extension.
  6. When your finished typing click OK and the change should take effect immediately

I think you mean Malhavoc? I only play MTG with my MWS...

I finished writing my thread on theme crashing and it includes a short tutorial for creating theme changing .reg files. Enjoy

Why Does MWS Periodically Crash When I Change Themes?

Please note that changing the registry does nothing for an open MWS. You need to say that to apply the change, MWS must be closed, then edit the key, then open MWS.

Isn't that mentioned in Step 1?

Also, I get quoted, which I thoroughly enjoy, except that Malhavoc should get the credit.
